What to expect at your initial appointment

Children’s Allergist Paediatric Allergist Immunologist Paediatrician Brisbane Dr Sophie Willcocks

An initial consultation involves a 60-minute appointment during which a thorough history will be taken of the patient's presenting allergy/immunology concerns and medical background including current medications, immunisation status, family and social history. Dr Willcocks will also conduct a physical examination including measurements of your child/adolescent's height and weight and complete skin prick testing if indicated. She will then provide a summary of the key findings and work with you to generate all relevant treatment and follow-up plans.

The referring clinician will be provided with a letter of correspondence summarising the findings and recommendations, which will also be provided to you within 2-4 weeks of the initial appointment.

What should I bring to my initial appointment?

Please bring the following to your appointment:

For infants or younger children, it can also be helpful to bring snacks, nappies, spare clothing, or a favourite toy to help keep them comfortable during the consultation.

Fees & Payments

A schedule of fees including “out-of-pocket” or “gap” charges will be provided by Dr Sophie Willcocks’ consulting rooms at the time of an appointment being booked. 

Cancellation Policy

If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please notify the clinic as soon as possible. This allows the appointment to be offered to another patient who may be waiting for care.

Details regarding cancellation timeframes or applicable fees will be provided by the clinic when your appointment is confirmed.

How do I book an appointment with Dr Sophie Willcocks?

To book an appointment with Dr Willcocks you will need to obtain a referral letter from your/your child’s GP, paediatrician, or other specialist. This will assist in ensuring the referral is triaged appropriately and is also used to facilitate a claim for any applicable Medicare rebates following the consultation. Do I need a referral to see Dr Willcocks?

Whilst a referral is not mandatory, it is strongly recommended as it allows Dr Willcocks to triage the urgency of your care and to communicate her findings and recommendations your/your child’s ongoing care in the community. A referral is also required for you to claim for any applicable Medicare rebate for the consultation fees 

Do I need to pay for my consultation at the time of my appointment?

Yes billing will be processed at the conclusion of each face-to-face, telehealth, or telephone consultation 

Is there parking available at the clinic?

Yes there is a dedicated, free on-site parking lot with plenty of undercover and open-air spaces for patients. The practice is also easily accessible via public transport and Dr Willcocks is able to offer telehealth and telephone services in certain circumstances if required. 

What is informed financial consent?

Patients are provided with all expected/potential fees, including out-of-pocket costs, for a consultation with Dr Willcocks in writing once an appointment booking has been made. 

Do I need Xrays or MRI scan prior to my appointment?

No but please bring along copies of any potentially relevant imaging reports and blood or skin prick test results if you have them available 

Does Dr Willcocks treat children?

Yes, Dr Willcocks is a paediatrician so she will see patients from 0-18 years of age. Dr Willcocks does not assess or treat patients over the age of 18 (existing patients will be referred on to an appropriate adult clinician once 18 years of age and/or at the completion of highschool if ongoing specialist care is required
